Session Overview
GC/MS Analysis & Data Review By Mitzi Miller, Dade Moeller, Inc.
The objective of this course is to review the analytical process for obtaining data of known & documented quality for GC & GC/MS. The course includes practical examples of
- performing testing using GC and GC/MS
- preparation techniques for organic analysis
- identify &implement corrective actions &
- perform the necessary lab data review.
The course is designed to help lab personnel improve their understanding of the science & the regulated methods. Test methods include EPA 500, 600 series for analysis of water. The latest versions of these methods will be presented and discussed.
Session Agenda
| 7:30 | Registration |
| 8:00 | Technology Description The section presents the fundamentals of the science for GC and GC/MS including requirements found in TNI standard related to this technology |
| 10:00 | Break |
| 10:15 | Methods Review – Review of the Latest EPA Method Versions This section presents a summary of the test methods for volatiles, pesticides and semi-volatiles testing for drinking water, non-potable water samples. The differences among the reference methods are reviewed. Methods include instrument and preparation techniques. Calibration, quality control parameters and qualitative compound identification from both the methods and TNI standard will be reviewed |
| 11:15 | TKN & TN Digestions |
| 12:00 | Lunch |
| 1:00 | Troubleshooting & Data Review This section presents how to perform data review for sample preparation records; GC and GC/MS instrument data records. Data review includes both manual and electronic records. Data review of volatiles data will be presented to demonstrate a thorough data review process for instrumental analysis. The practices presented for data review of volatiles data can also be used when reviewing pesticides and semivolatiles |
| 2:45 | Break |
| 3:00 | Troubleshooting This section presents troubleshooting techniques & identification of ways to optimize a sample preparation, GC or GC/MS to ensure better through put, less time rerunning samples and use of computer systems to ensure correct reporting of results. This section should help the laboratory reduce or eliminate manual integrations in order to build efficiencies into the production laboratory. Examples on improving the chromatography for the more difficult separations are presented. |
| 4:00 | Questions/Answers |
| 4:15 | Ajourn |
Who Should Attend this Seminar?
