“On-Boarding of New Laboratory Staff”

One of most challenging task a manager can face is bringing on a new team members. In today’s world quality candidates are hard to come by and landing the correct candidate and properly assimilating them into your work environment can be difficult but absolutely necessary for long term success and mutually beneficial experiences for the employer and employee. This presentation will provide tips and pointers to allow for the successful onboarding of new laboratory staff members. It will cover the screening and selection of candidates and most importantly will cover recommended training and mentoring during the first few week of employment.  

Presenter: Ray Martrano from ALS

Mr. Martrano is an environmental chemistry leader and specialist with over 35 years of combined experience in analytical chemistry and environmental engineering. Specific areas of expertise include environmental laboratory management, analytical chemistries and methodologies, sampling, project management, remediation technologies, process engineering, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control. He is presently employed as the Operations Manager at ALS Global’ s Middletown laboratory and oversees all organic and inorganic chemistry and microbiology departments and all accredited test methods performed at this facility for multiple states and programs. He is heavily involved with providing technical guidance and leadership to staff and customers on a wide variety of analytical methods, engineering, and data interpretation needs.  He is responsible for staff recruitment and training and bringing to bear the resources necessary to meet company and customer objectives.
