PAAEL contracted with Aaren Alger, past PADEP Lab Accreditation Program Chief and founder of Alger Consulting & Training LLC, to develop our On-Line Ethics Training Courses.
At the request of our membership, we have two NEW Ethics Training Courses. Both courses follow the same basic Agenda. The courses will describe the requirements for lawful and ethical behavior related to environmental testing. The courses provide examples of:
- Definition and explanation of ethics as it pertains to environmental laboratory testing
- Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest
- Appropriate and inappropriate laboratory activities related to data review and reduction, recordkeeping, reporting and training
- Evaluation of trends, preventative action, corrective action and introduction to root-cause analysis
- Potential consequences for inappropriate behavior
- Appropriate reporting practices when departures from accepted practices occur, when quality control protocols fail, or when questions of inappropriate actions arise.
Ethics Training Level 1 The Level 1 course is a more basic course and may be more relevant to Laboratory Staff in a laboratory performing basic chemistry testing and microbiology analyses.
Objective of the Course: The objective of the course is to present ethics training that meets both the TNI Standard and 25Pa. Code, Chapter 252. In this course, the training will focus on the actions and activities undertaken in a small commercial laboratory or municipal laboratory that performs primarily field measurements, basic chemistry and/or microbiology testing.
At the conclusion of the course, a Quiz will be taken by the participant. The Quiz will be graded and participants achieving a passing grade will receive an Ethics Training Certificate.
Ethics Training Level 2 The Level 2 course is a more complex course and may be more relevant to Laboratory QA/QC Staff and Medium or Large Laboratory Staff employing GC, GCMS, ICP, ICP/MS and other more complicated testing. This course also includes the same basic chemistry and microbiology concepts presented in the Level 1 course.
